Even though we use the PRP method of Primality testing we use the LLR software
because of its easy to use features. Make sure you have read the
Getting Started
Thread before reading this page.
If you have a computer with an Internet connection
this section is for you.
This project uses
llr wrapped in PRPNet.
You will find the current version in the
PRPNet thread
in our forums.
Download the version that matches your operating system and unzip to a folder
on your computer.
Enter the prpclient folder.
Please refer to the PRP stats to
make sure you choose a username that's not already taken.
Open the "master_prpclient.ini". If you're using Notepad and it looks
funny, open it in wordpad or a proper editor instead.
Configure the parameters email, userid and client_ID
email: your email address.
userid: the username you chose for this project.
client_ID: if you're using more than one computer, please set this to something
unique for each computer.
Run the install.bat that matches your number of cores, followed by the
update.bat and finally the start.bat.
PRPNet will open a window for each core and you're participating.
If you've stopped the llr processes for some reason, these can be resumed by
running the correct start.bat again.
PS: The TCP ports 7100 (first pass tests) and 7101 (second pass tests) need to
be open for outbound connections for PRPNet to be able to download and upload
workunits.
If you have a computer without an Internet connection this section is for
you.
Please browse to the
Manual reservation
thread. If you're not already registerred at mersenneforum.org, you'll have to do
so.
Download the preferred version of llr from the bottom of the first post.
Then find a range that is not reserved and claim it by making a post similar
to:
6286000.txt 15 candidates reserved
Download the corresponding file and save in the same folder as you saved
llr
Start llr. In windows it will look like this:

Note that the icon is red right now
Click on Test menu and then Input data. (Test » Input data)
The screen looks likes this:
Enter the name of the file reserved, 1028000.txt in the input box and in the
output file put primes.log. All primes
found are reported in primes.log.
Hit OK, the icon changes to green and the computer starts going work.
When the icon changes back to red you are out of work. Submit your results
by sending the contents of your primes.log in a PM to
ltd. Or
you can send him a PM and ask for his email address.
Now, go back to the
Manual reservation
thread and post a message similar to:
sl7200000.txt completed
If you want another range, you can reserve a new one in the same
post.
